Snowed In

Yet more snow here in Leeds, the worst yet, having to rely on buses to get to work meant a day home for me after the bus got stuck!

So I cleaned off the feeders and topped them up putting some seed on top of the shed too. The Blackbirds and Dunnocks have been feeding of there.

I've just had a record four Greenfinch on the feeders, the most i've had in the garden before is two and that was on New Years Day. The Greenfinch are striking against the snow. There have been a dozen Goldfinch, a Robin, Starlings, House Sparrows, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Collared Doves, a Woodpigeon and a Wren. There is constant activity out there and it's great to watch.

Here are a few photos from out and about today. You can just about make out one of the Greenfinch on the last one.

  1. I bet you were gutted Pam. But I'm glad that you've managed to make the most of the day. Stay warm! Linda

  3. Great snowy photos Pam! Our garden has looked much the same for what seems like ages now, it started going and then came back again :(

Poor birds! What a hard time they are having.

  4. Thank you. Yes it feels like it's never going to end doesn't it! It's turned to ice now and is just a nightmare to be out in - doesn't look quite so pretty then. No doubt it will soon melt and we'll wonder what the fuss was all about!

  5. Looks beautiful, Pam. And, as with other UK birdwatchers, the weather is bringing you lots of great visitors. I'm glad I'm seeing it from over here in Texas, though, as I'm not fond of the cold - I had too much of it when I was growing up in Carlisle. I'll think of you when we're on Galveston Island beach tomorrow!

  6. Ooh that's rubbing it in a bit Jeff! :-) Actually it's finally rained and most of the snow has gone now and it's actually about freezing for a change!
