I'm finally seeing the garden in daylight during the week......just.......i'm so glad the days are getting longer. Still the birds are singing loudly in the dark by 6.30 every morning now and when I do get chance to garden watch the feeders are busy nearly all day. Blue Tits, Blackbirds and Robins are the most regular. A Goldcrest followed the Blue Tits in the other day and made a poor attempt at going for the feeder, I couldn't focus the camera quickly enough before it was gone but it was the first time i've seen one do that.
I've spent a bit of time walking through the woods and seen Woodpigeons and Magpies nesting or attempting to already. No sign of the Kingfisher of course!
It's the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend, no doubt all the birds will disappear for the duration............

I've seen a few Goldcrest around

Be patient - we're already almost at the end of January so spring is not so far behind. Nice shot of the Wood Pigeon. Seems to me it's a bit of a maligned species but I always enjoy them when I visit Europe.
ReplyDeleteI do like the Woodpigeons, we have a lot here and get them in the garden a fair bit too!
DeleteHI Pam, that snow looks so cold! I'm really over winter this year I don't know if it's just cause Im older or what but I just have not enjoyed the constant cold. Your patch is very productive, so I wouldn't worry you're going to fill in more blanks for sure. Spring is really only around the corner I see some bulbs are poking up through the ground!
ReplyDeleteIt's been very cold at times!! I don't mind it.....if i'm inside! Yes spring is not far, we have Snowdrops popping up all around the garden.
DeleteA lovely set of photos - I especially like the snowy ones :) It sounds as though you have made a good start to the year list. We had a garden Goldcrest one winter that used to feed regularly on fatballs. Looking forward to doing RSPB Garden Birdwatch too although as you say no doubt many species will go awol!!
ReplyDeleteThanks :) We get the Goldcrests a fair bit but they do tend to stay in the trees though, i'd love for them to venture onto the feeder! It's the way of the Birdwatch isn't it!!
