Usually this is a busy time as the birds wake up and the noise from the Sparrow roost at the back of the gardens rises to quite a crescendo as they chatter before eventually flying out. They make their way round to our front garden to make use of the bath and feeders we have there. Of course with this being the birdwatch and birds having a sixth sense about this kind of stuff they decided not to follow the usual routine until after my hour was up and we were heading out!
Still it wasn't a bad count -
Blackbird 1
Blue Tit 2
Coal Tit 1
Collared Dove 1
Dunnock 1
Great Tit 2
House Sparrow 8
Starling 5
Woodpigeon 1
I didn't take any photos as it was dull and not quite daylight but I have a couple of recent ones.
Blackbird
Woodpigeon
And finally a bird that has been making the odd visit, thankfully not on Saturday morning.
Sparrowhawk
It's always the same on garden bird watch day isn't it?! Never see what you usually see.
ReplyDeleteIt is, they are clever those birds!!
DeleteYou saw quite a good selection of birds, our usual wood pigeons and collard doves returned the day after we did the count! It is always the way isn't it? I hope your daughter had a lovely birthday weekend:)
ReplyDeleteIt is!! Thank you she did :)
DeleteYou saw a good selection of species. Had to laugh when you mentioned birds going AWOL - it happens here too!
ReplyDeleteI hope your daughter had a super birthday.
Isn't it funny, I see so many people say the same thing! She did, we had a good weekend :)
DeleteWouldn't you know they would do the opposite of what is the norm on a day you really wanted them to drop by...they can be very unpredictable eh? You had a good count anyway. I had 2 surprise killdeer fly over and make a couple circles over my back yard this morning...that was fun!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly can! Oh a lovely yard tick, it's always good to see something unexpected!
