Bempton Cliffs

Saturday had us doing our yearly visit (I know we should go more!) to Bempton Cliffs. We finally picked a nice morning - the rain started after we got back to the car this time. The sea was blue, the sun was shining...a little and the cliffs were covered in the pink of Red Campion.

The views as always were gorgeous

Unfortunately about a gazillion (ish) tiny flying beetles chose Saturday to hatch and at points you couldn't open your mouth for fear of swallowing a few dozen! But we just ignored them mostly and didn't let them affect the day - though we did have a few stops to debug as we walked!

I don't actually know what they were but here's a couple of photos of two of the different types?

I'd find it difficult to pick a favourite bird here, they are all quite stunning especially when you see so many together, the noise is immense of course! Plus on top of cliffs you have Skylark, Whitethroat, Reed Bunting and Wren singing with Swallows zooming around too.

And if you look closely just above the Gannets, a Puffin!

One of the Jackdaw's patrolling the cliff top - the camera struggled to focus here because of the amount of bugs in the air!

  1. I may have mentioned this before, but whenever I have visited the UK I have always intended to visit Bempton Cliffs, but for one reason or another have never made it. But now I don't feel quite as bad since you live so close but still only visit once a year! Sometimes we all have too many choices.

    1. That's the problem, too many places to visit and not enough time!! I really need to learn to drive!

  2. A wonderful post and photos Pam. Every year I think I would like to go to Bemnpton Cliffs but never do - probably too far for a day trip for us. We are going to Anglesey this year so hoping to go to South Stack to see some sea birds that way :)

    1. Thank you! Yes I think you'd probably need to stay a couple of days - there's plenty else to see though...... We're going to Wales this year, Pembrokeshire though, we're hoping to visit Ramsey Island!

  6. A lovely collection of photos. There's always lots to see at Bempton :) We went every year for a few years, going on an RSPB seabird cruise each time but got out of the habit! We did manage trip to Bempton last year though.

    1. Thank you :) I've yet to go on the cruise! My daughter is not good with boats so we've been putting it off!
